Rotman Finance Students Succeed in International Competitions

Toronto – Teams of students from two finance programs at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management achieved success in two international competitions held recently.

A team from the Rotman Master of Finance program was the winner of the Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA) Investment Challenge. Team members included Ivy Pei, Bella Xu, Elaine Chen, Tom Lam, and Prashant Kumar, all from the Rotman MFin Class of 2024. The CQA Challenge is an equity portfolio management competition that offers students the opportunity to learn and apply stock selection and portfolio management skills in a simulated, real life hedge fund experience.  It provides teams with first-hand experience of being a portfolio manager by managing money, explaining their investment process and discussing performance. The team was mentored by , Brandon Greer, MFin’19, and Aron Sankar from Hillsdale Investment Management Inc

A second Rotman team representing the school’s Master of Financial Risk Management program advanced to the international final of the 2024 PRMIA Risk Management Challenge. Team members, Steven Su, Jason Huang, Sally Liu and Jack Chen, all from the Rotman MFRM Class of 2024, won the MATLAB Challenge within the competition. Teams were tasked with a case study with focus on the Silicon Valley Bank collapse. The teams were tasked to use modeling to help solve four problems provided by MathWorks. The Professional Risk Managers' International Association Risk Management Challenge (PRMIA) is an annual international competition for students from multiple disciplines to use their critical and creative thinking skills to solve realistic business problems with a risk management focus.
