Meet Mark S. Bonham (BCom '82), Bonham & Co., Inc.
Mark Bonham (BCom ’82), a leader in the Canadian financial industry, has made the choice to give back by investing in the next generation. In 2002, he created an endowed scholarship at the Rotman School, which has since benefited 17 deserving students. Speaking at the Rotman Student Awards Breakfast in November, Mark shared how he has remained connected to past recipients and the positive impact their relationships have had on his life.

Mark S. Bonham is an investment management professional and a Senior Fellow of Massey College, University of Toronto in Toronto, Canada. He received his M.Sc. (Econ), with a focus on Capital Markets Theory, from the London School of Economics (1986), a B.Comm. from the University of Toronto (1982), and is a Fellow, Life Office Management Association (1982). After an extensive career in the Canadian financial industry and having founded two public mutual fund companies in Canada, Mark is completing his financial book A History of the Canadian Financial Industry, 1900 to Present. An active member of the LGBTQ community, Mark is the author of two books to date: Notables: 101 Global LGBTQ People who Changed the World (2015) and Champions: Biographies of Global LGBTQ Pioneers (2014). Co-founder and Managing Editor of the online biographical encyclopedia QueerBio.Com, a source of biographical information on over 13,000 international LGBTQ individuals. A Member of the Steering Committee in the formation of the new Canadian Business History Association (2015), Mark is also the Board Chair of the Toronto Botanical Garden and has endowed the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto. Among his many community projects, Mark has co-chaired (with Ed Clark) the capital campaign for Toronto’s first youth homeless shelter, and was the lead donor and co-Chair of the Casey House Hospice Capital Campaign. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honours, including the Inaugural Alumni of Influence Award from University College, University of Toronto (2012), and the Clarkson Laureateship in Public Service (2016).
