World’s Preeminent Student Trading Competition Returns to the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Toronto – The world’s preeminent trading competition for university students returns for its 14th year at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

The students, along with their faculty advisors, from 52 different universities which include teams from China, Iceland, India, and South Africa, will participate in the competition which takes place from February 23 to 25. A team from the Master of Financial Engineering program at Baruch College returns to defend their title while a team from LUISS University in Italy tries to regain the crown they won in the two previous competitions.

The competition takes place in the Rotman School’s BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab and will utilize the Rotman Interactive Trader, an order-driven market simulator, which was developed in-house at the Rotman School. Teams will participate in various activities including electronic and outcry trading cases, seminars with industry practitioners, and social events with their fellow competitors.

BP is the main sponsor of the competition and will also sponsor the BP Commodities Trading Case. Other case sponsors include Flow Traders, MathWorks, and S&P Global Market Intelligence. DRW Trading Group is a bronze sponsor.

The Rotman School’s BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab is designed to promote experiential learning in the area of financial markets and data. The competition cases are implemented on the highly acclaimed Rotman Interactive Trader application, a market simulation tool being used in over 50 universities and financial institutions around the world. The Lab is utilized by classes in many of the Rotman School’s programs including its Master of Finance, Master of Financial Risk Management, MBA and Rotman Commerce programs.
